The king was pleased.
"And a royal reward shall be bestowed on you," he said.
He beckoned to his treasurer and ordered that the brave young fisherman be given a basketful of silver and gold. The young man remembered the butler and the gateman and the guard.
"Sire," he said, "may I be allowed to choose my own reward?"
The boy is not foolish, thought the king. There lies a story beyond this....
